Training in Puppy Manners

Puppies love to chew, bite, and bark all the time, and while this can be entertaining when they’re little, it can be quite aggravating when they’re larger. It’s important to introduce puppies to canine obedience exercises at an early age. Puppies need to learn essential commands like sit, down, and heel at a young age. It’s best to start a dog learning when they’re young, and obedience training can begin as early as 12 weeks.

When training a puppy, be sure to reward good behavior with a treat or praise and know how to handle bad behavior. Remember that dogs have short memories, so there’s no point to scold a dog for something that happened even a minute prior. When training a puppy, patience is a virtue. Depending on the puppy, it can take more or less time to teach them a command.

Basic Training

For the most pleasant pet-owning experience, all dogs should be trained. Untrained dogs are unruly and cause many headaches for their owners. They can jump on people and furniture, get into garbage, play too roughly with children, not walk well on a leash, and more. Many dogs can be trained to curb their bad behaviors, but prevention – in this case, early training – is the best way to have a well-trained dog.

The best guidelines for training your dog are simple. First of all, don’t expect your dog to know what you want him to do right away. All training takes time and repetition before your dog will really understand what’s expected of him. Always praise and reward your dog for doing what you ask of him, and be consistent in this praised. One of the keys of dog obedience training is that you give your dog a simple decision, and then praise him when he makes the right decision – following your command. Lastly, take your dog’s training slowly and master one command at a time. Trying to teach too many things at once will only confuse your dog.

dog obedienceI’m diligent about taking my dog for a walk every evening, and I play with him for a while in the evenings when I get home from work. Still, I can’t help but feel that I’ve neglected him somewhat. Even worse, it’s become apparent that he’s regressed in terms of obedience. He tugs incessantly on the leash and occasionally ignores my commands completely. Something has got to give.

A friend clued me in about the benefits of agility training, saying that the experience forges a stronger bond between pet and master. It’s also supposed to reinforce dog obedience lessons; dog and owner must maintain a high degree of communication and understanding throughout the course of an agility contest, so the dog has no choice but to obey.

rally dog training

Rally obedience is a fun activity for both dogs and their owners. It combines the elements of obedience and agility. It is a more relaxed version of the more precise obedience competitions. Rally dog training focuses instead on attitude and enthusiasm.

Here, the variety of exercises and course will allow dog handlers and their pets their versatility and teamwork. Like in agility contests, courses are designed by judges and are different in every trial. You will receive a course map and be allowed to walk the course first without your dog prior to the main event.

dogobediencetraining-agilitytools.jpgJust like human beings, dogs can be taught obedience.  There are even dog schools and colleges that specialize in canine obedience exercises and offer agility training to all types of dogs.

Animal experts believe that there’s wisdom in training your dog early. This move, they say, will help develop good habits in your canine and will make him or her easier to handle.  As early as eight weeks old, puppies attend Obedience School, provided they are up to date on their vaccinations.  Puppies will be taught Puppy Socialization, People Socialization and other exercises under the Basic Obedience 1 course.  After Basic Obedience 1 comes Obedience 1.  Dogs in attendance here must be 16 weeks old and up-to-date on all vaccinations.  They will learn about certain commands and exercises like come, sit, down, heel, and stand, plus some pet manners such as no biting or barking, and waiting by the door or by the car.  Obedience 2 follows this course.

An extensive line of dog training equipment enables dog owners and professional trainers to achieve basic control and reinforce these with specific commands.

Dog obedience jumps are simple devices that help dog owners train and control their dogs off leash. They help curb a dog’s natural inclination to jump, especially on people. For very active pets, it is necessary to help them overcome this habit and learn instead to act appropriately at home and outside. At Windryder, you can find dog agility equipment fore both beginning and advanced dog handlers.

I have often shopped at big commercial pet supply stores like Pet’s Mart and Petco, but it’s rare that I can ever find what I am looking for. I feel like both of those stores have exactly the same products, but lack the unique dog products that I am so desperately looking for. I have often wanted to practice dog obedience at home with my dog Hoops, but I just haven’t been able to find the right products.

Recently I had the idea to start shopping for pet products online. The first day I started shopping on the web sites I found so many cool products. I was able to order the supplies I needed to train my dog at home, and I even saved the huge amount of money I would’ve spent on obedience classes.
